Hey Phils Phans,
We need your help. Each year to celebrate Christmas in July we collect new, unwrapped toys that we then donate to 2 Philadelphia community organizations that benefit needy children. If you are attending the game on July 25th, please bring a toy to any entrance. Gates open at 1:35pm. We will also be dancing on the dugout with the Phanatic in the 7th inning.
To continue with the Christmas in July spirit, we decided to come up with our early Christmas wishes. Feel free to add your own in the comments section.
Hope to see you on Saturday!
I have 4 wishes for Christmas in July! First, I hope it doesn’t rain on my vacation this year! I’ve been waiting so long to go and I hope it holds up for my family and I! Second, I hope that the Phillies keep playing this way and go all the way for a repeat!!! Third, law students look for full time jobs as soon as summer ends so I am wishing for a full time job after graduation!! Finally, I am hoping that our toy drive is a successful again this year. Can’t wait for Saturday, Happy Christmas in July!
My “Christmas in July” wish is for no more rain delays for the Phillies! Wouldn’t it be nice if we had sunshine from now until the end of the season? Even though the Phillies won the World Series during rainy and cold conditions, I wish that they wouldn’t have to worry about the weather at all!
My Christmas in July wish is for Roy Halladay. The reasoning should be self explanatory.
My Christmas in July wish is for the Curse of William Penn to never return to Philadelphia ever again! This curse was broken by the Phillies in October, and hopefully the rest of the Philadelphia sports teams will become more successful in the future, now that it has been officially broken!
My Christmas in July wish list consists of the Phillies repeating as World Champions, one of the Phillies winning the NL MVP, acquiring Roy Halladay for next to nothing, no more rain delays, a good tan, and I guess I should add getting a job!
My “Christmas in July” wish would be to have amazing luck and win a FREE trip to the Carribean for my friends and I!! Or a puppy with a big red bow around its neck waiting on my doorstep for me when I get home! Either one would be a great wish to come true! Make sure you come to Saturday’s game and make someone else’s wish come true by bringing new, unwrapped toys to benefit the Children’s Crisis Treatment Center and Taller Puertorriqueno Community Center!
My wish for this “Christmas in July” is for this message to reach as many people as possible, not only the fans that plan to attend the game on July 25th but for everyone who would like to donate to a worthy cause. The past 2 years our Toy Drive has been a success but I can’t even begin to tell you how many people told us (as they walked by our huge gift boxes) that they wish they knew we were collecting toys! All the ballgirls dress in “holiday outfits” – guess you should come out to witness this because that’s all I’m giving away – collecting new, unwrapped toys for the Children’s Crisis Treatment Center and Taller Puertorriqueno!! Oh and there will always be a surprise for ALL fans around the 7th inning!!!! So just think, if 45,000+ fans bring a new/unwrapped toy, imagine how many Christmas wishes will be answered in December. So please show your support and bring a toy; we’ll even throw in a team picture of the 2009 Phillies….well ALL fans will get one, but really, with your help we are guaranteed to make a lot of children very happy this Christmas. See you at the ballpark; we’ll be at every entrance!!
My wish is to not fall off the dugout during our annual Christmas in July dance at Saturday’s game! But seriously, I wish for the continued health and happiness of my friends and family.
I would love to have Christmas in July! July would be even better because not only is it my birthday month and the All-Star game, but then I’d have one more event to celebrate with Christmas in July. If I could have one wish it would be that I could live at the beach with all my friends and family for the summer. I’d have great company and a wonderfully relaxing time. Plus, I’d have time to watch every inning of each Phillies game. I am such a summer person that I think I would be content if I could spend the whole summer on the sand. Wouldn’t that be nice!?
I don’t know about you but I was so bummed about the month of June this year. Almost the entire month was ruined by rain. I even went to Puerto Rico to catch some good beach days there and it just rained and rained. So, my Christmas in July wish is to make summer last until at least October. This way we can all get an extra good beach month to make up for June!
There is one wish that I have for Christmas in July. I would love to get a Yorkshire Terrier puppy. I recently just purchased a new home and I think that a Yorkie would be the perfect addition to my new house. Yorkies are so cute and cuddly and are the perfect size for a dog. Also, I would always have something to keep me company. I will keep my fingers crossed that I will receive a Yorkie soon!!
My Christmas in July wish would be for the weather to stay ‘summer weather’ through Christmas time. I am not a huge fan of the cold weather and would be much happier if it stayed warm longer. I think the time goes by faster when it’s warm out which is a good thing as a teacher!
Oh, and I also would wish for another World Series Championship!!
This topic is easy–my Christmas in July wish would be for Christmas to actually be in July AND December. It’s the perfect solution for a holiday with so much build up, but only one day of glory. Who wouldn’t love Christmas every 6 months or so? It would be the perfect after-party for a great month that already boasts Independence Day, the Mid Summer Classic, and now Christmas. I think it’s genius. It would open the door for greater toy drives and the year round spreading of holiday cheer. I’m going all in. Who’s with me?
Hey there, did you miss us??? Sorry we have been slacking lately with our entries. We will catch up on everything later. In the meantime, we have to talk about the 3rd annual Summer Softball Showdown.
It’s that time again….
The Summer Softball Showdown has been a successful event held at FDR Park (right near Citizens Bank) but this year we have decided to raise the bar and bring the event to where all the action is during these hot summer days!! We couldn’t think of a better place we all wanted to be but the shore (or the beach).
The 3rd Annual Summer Softball Showdown is a softball game hosted by Philadelphia sports teams’ dancers and entertainers, which will include yours truly, the Phillies Ballgirls, the Flyers Delta Dental Ice Team, the Angels Dance Team (Wings) and the Kixx Dance Team. Local media celebrities will also take part in the softball game which adds to the talent each team already has in place.
The game will lead off at noon at the 80th Street Baseball Field in Stone Harbor, NJ and is FREE, yes you heard it right, FREE for all ages! 50/50 raffles will be sold and there will also be special appearances by the Phillie Phanatic and the KIXX SocceeRoo, as well as performances by the dance teams during intermission. An after party will take place from 4:00-6:00 pm at the Golden Inn, Located at 7849 Dune Drive in Avalon, NJ. Admission is $30.00 at the door and $25.00 if purchased in advance at the game. Admission includes an open bar, live band, meet and greet with the softball game participants, and a silent and live auction that features autographed team memorabilia such as jerseys, bats and sticks, 2009-2010 team tickets, an autographed Jon Bon Jovi Guitar and much more ? All proceeds will benefit area charities through the Comcast-Spectator Foundation, the Phillies and the KIXX Charities.
The Weather forecast: 79 degree’s and sunny, so what more could you ask for – a perfect summer day down the shore, free entertainment and the ability to help a great cause!! Please come out and show your support, we promise you are in for a treat!!
Here’s what the veteran ballgirls have to say about last year’s Summer Softball Showdown as well as insight from our newest Ballgirls on what to expect at this years event.
Last year at the SSS it was literally 97 degrees outside! The Ballgirls managed to sweat it out and continue the reign of SSS Champs! I remember the game we played against the Flyers Girls the most because it was the most competition we saw all day. The Sixers dancers definitely win best dressed, I never thought it would be possible to play softball in what they had on, but they managed to do it. I am really looking forward to this Saturday when we can all get together and have fun playing softball! Come support us this weekend in Avalon! It really is a lot of fun. Plus, you have the chance to collect all 18 Ballgirl trading cards, how could you pass that up?
Unfortunately I could not attend the showdown last year, so I am really looking forward to it this year! I’m always excited for our softball games because some of my favorite memories growing up are of being on a team for a variety of different sports. I’m really looking forward to participating in event with the other Philly teams to raise money for a great cause!
I am really looking forward to the Summer Softball Showdown on Saturday. Not only is the showdown a great opportunity to raise money for all different charities, it gives us ballgirls an opportunity to get back out on the softball diamond and play the sport we all love. Playing in the showdown brings back great memories of playing tournament softball every weekend as a kid. I feel very fortunate to be able to participate in this worthy cause. It is a day filled with fun and excitement so I encourage everyone to come out and cheer us on!!
The softball showdown was a great time last year. We were able to raise money for Phillies Charities while playing the game we love. I had a lot of good memories from that day but my favorite (and most embarrassing) was when I made a dive play for a ball at short stop. I got up and looked at the dirt all over and me and realized that I just tried to dive for a ball at a charity event! It’s hard to get the serious player out of you! Hopefully, at the showdown in Avalon this year, I can stay on my feet. Hope to see you all there!
It’s Summer Softball Showdown time and I am very excited because this year the softball game is being played down the shore! Over the past two years the showdown has been a highlight of my summer because I have such a great time. The past two years the Ballgirls have been fortunate enough to win the tournament, but the competition has been getting better each year. It was cool to see all of the teams come together for a day and raise money for our charities. Hopefully this year we can come out with win!
This will be my third Summer Showdown, and I’m so excited to finally bring it to the beach. (sorry, shore) I mean really, who wouldn’t want to be down the beach on a beautiful summer Saturday…I know that’s what we were all thinking at last year’s showdown ? The game is always such a great time; so we thought, why not combine the best of both worlds: the beach along with entertainment provided by some of Philly’s finest (ballgirls, dancers, ice teams and media celeb’s) all for a great cause!! Sounds like a win/win to me ? So we hope to see you all there at noon…down the shore!! And don’t forget about Happy Hour…Golden Inn 4-6pm!
The Summer Softball Showdown was a blast last year! I liked getting to play all the different teams (Sixers dancers, flyers ice girls, soul girls, KIXX girls and the wings girls). I also thought it was fun to have different media playing on everyone’s team. We also had a celebrity coach (Tyler Greene) which was pretty awesome! I can’t wait for this years SSS and hopefully the ballgirls will win it again!
The summer softball showdown is one of the best charity events we participate in because it involves other Philly sports teams too! It’s a great atmosphere full of sports fans wanting to have fun and help a worthy cause. Last year was very entertaining with members of the media playing on the teams! Everyone had a great time. This year we have the opportunity to raise more money for charity at the happy hour so hope to see you there!
Last year’s Summer Softball Showdown was definitely a lot of fun! One of the best parts about the event was the opportunity to meet other women from the Philadelphia sports teams. Even though playing softball might not have been everyone’s strength, every girl enjoyed playing the game in order to raise money for charity. All of the girls were very supportive and very enthusiastic throughout the showdown as well. Whether there was a routine ground ball or a big hit to the outfield, all of the girls cheered each other on. I’m looking forward to having such a positive experience again this year!
And now from those who are new to the event….
Summer Softball Showdown in Avalon!! Who “can’t” be excited!?? We are playing at the beach this year and I think everyone is extremely excited to be playing at the 2nd best place to be; behind CBP of course! Since I’m a rookie I don’t really know what to expect, but the word is the summer softball showdown is always a good time. Game time is 12pm so make sure you are there to cheer on your favorite Ballgirls!! Afterwards we will be having a Happy Hour from 4-6, with some of the proceeds going towards charity. So definitely come out; it will be a good time, and best of all it’s for a GREAT CAUSE! And who WOULDN’T want to be at the beach in beautiful Avalon! Hoping for beautiful weather!
I’m definitely looking forward to my first Summer Softball Showdown. It’s a unique event with tons of potential at becoming a mainstay for Phillies charities for years to come. I can’t wait to meet the other girls from the Flyers, KIXX, and Wings, but more importantly, I’m glad to have the opportunity to do something for a good cause.
My favorite part about being a Ballgirl are the charity softball games, it’s the perfect opportunity to bond with the other girls. The upcoming game, which is Saturday, the Ballgirls will be competing with dance teams from the KIXX and Wings, and the Flyers Ice Team and I am looking forward to meeting new people in the name of a great cause. Anyone who will be down the shore on July 18 should come watch the Summer Showdown in Avalon! It is guaranteed to be a ton of fun!
This is my first year participating in the Softball Showdown and I was so excited to hear we would be playing at the NJ shore. When I think of summer I think of the beach and baseball season and the showdown will appropriately combine two of my favorite activities. I can’t wait to meet all of the other teams and fans who come out for this great event that benefits some very deserving charities. I’m crossing my fingers for good weather and I hope everyone comes out to watch the game because it’s sure to be entertaining!
Since our first team meeting as the 2009 ballgirls, I have always heard how one of everyone’s favorite events from last year was the Summer Showdown, and this year it is at the beach! It sounds like it will be so much fun, and a great day for softball and more importantly raising money for a good cause. I’m excited to meet the dance teams for other Philadelphia sport organizations and hopefully put on an entertaining game for all the fans that come to watch!
I think the summer softball showdown is going to be a great time and a great way for the women’s teams of Philadelphia to get together for a good cause. It should be a lot of fun and I’m really looking forward to playing in the game!! The happy hour afterwards at the Golden Inn should be a blast, too! I’m looking forward to interacting with all the fans who come out to support us!
